Elvis Makes Three fun
So when Cherie and I were discussing what to partner up on next we were throwing out ideas, and half jokingly I said Elvis. We could make the hero an Elvis impersonator. It stuck with us and both of us decided to run with the idea. Why Elvis? Why not! Romance stories are meant to fulfill fantasies and the iconic rock star still has fans obsessing over the details of his life and death. Six hundred thousand fans showed up to the anniversary of his death last year in Memphis. I wonder how many will show up this year?
Still, writing this book made me realize that I know very little about the man behind the legend. It’s important to research for every story. Some people think you don’t have as much work to do when you write a contemporary, but that’s just not true. The details come alive when you do your homework.
I can’t give too much of a sneak peek because Elvis Makes Three isn’t finished yet. We are still working out the bugs, but there was a lot of work and research that went into making the characters and defining the details of the story. Here’s some inside information about what we did and some of the places we visited before our characters did.
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge
The Sushi Bar
The Hard Rock Cafe
Music Row
Music Hall of Fame
Here are some Elvis Fun Facts for you to enjoy while you wait for EMT to come out:
§ If Elvis were alive today, Jan 8 2010 would be his 75th birthday.
§ Elvis topped business magazine Forbes’ 2008 list of dead celebrities’ earnings.
§ Elvis was thrown out of the Grand Ole Opry in 1954.
§ Elvis ate nothing but meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and tomatoes for a period of two years. (Sounds like a period of time my child went through. Talk about quirky!)
§ President Barack Obama used the Presley’s hit, “If I Can Dream” for his inaugural.
§ Died August 16, 1977 in Memphis, Tennessee. (This is kind of freaky because it’s also my birthday!)
